An Alpharetta man is dead and a mother and son were in critical condition Saturday after a head-on collision between two SUVs Friday afternoon in Johns Creek, police said.

Raymond Myrand, 62, was traveling eastbound in a westbound lane when he caused the accident, which shut down State Bridge Road for hours, authorities said.

Myrand died on the scene around 1:30 p.m., said Johns Creek Police spokeswoman Rosemary Taylor.

A woman driving the other SUV and her 12-year-old son were airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital following the wreck and both were still in the intensive care unit a day later, Taylor said.

Their names also have not released.
