Johns Creek Millage to Remain

The Johns Creek City Council has voted to remain at the 4.7 percent millage. The council voted in favor of the rate during the June 16 meeting.

“I think it is always popular to try to do what the citizens would love to see, and that would be to put money back in the citizens pockets,” said Mayor Mike Bodker.

However the Council did make the difficult and unpopular decision to remain at the current millage.

“We have a primary responsibility to make decisions that are not just sound for today, but 15 20 years out,” said Bodker.

JC City Council Choses New Logo

After nearly two months of discussion, the Johns Creek City Council has chosen a new logo. During the council's April 14 meeting the council chose a logo similar to one chosen after the city's inception.

In February Alpharetta graphics design firm, Inward Solutions, presented the council with 12 logo options, which after much discussion were narrowed down to four.

However, the council decided to revamp the existing logo.

"I think that in a lot of respect with the current logo we had already branded the city," said Councilwoman Liz Hausmann. "This is a good compromise."

City Council Takes on Zoning and HR Issues

Zoning Matters

City Council failed to render a decision on a request to change zoning on the 8100 block along McGinnis Ferry Road from AG-1 to MIX Conditional to allow for a two-story, 8,320-square foot office building and a 6,223- square foot artist studio.

City Councilwoman Bev Miller, a resident of the Shakerag community, offered an amendment to deny the proposal, saying she wanted to protect the residential integrity of the area and called the proposed zoning inconsistent with the surrounding area.

City Council Looks for New Logo

The Johns Creek City Council is once again working to choose a new city logo. During Monday's regular work session Carl Fisher, president of Alpharetta graphics design firm, Inward Solutions, presented the council with 12 logo options, which after much discussion were narrowed down to four.

The desire for a logo change came about when the current logo was perceived as boring and dull. In the spring of last year a logo committee was formed, but no logo decision was ever reached.

"The council was not together on the process," said Councilwoman Bev Miller.

Comprehensive Planning: What Will Our City Look Like in 2030?

The culmination of data collection work begun in September by a team of consultants hired to help the city create a comprehensive land use plan was heard by the Johns Creek City Council at a Special Called Meeting, Monday, Jan. 14.

For the first time, city leaders and residents were able to look at data about Johns Creek – as a city, not as a portion of a county.

“Data didn’t exist at the city level; it had to be created,” said Michele Alexander, of the consulting firm Pond & Company.

And the revelations were very educational.
