Kids in Need Benefit from Sterling on the Lake

On Saturday, Oct. 25, Sterling on the Lake, 7004 Lake Sterling Blvd. in Flowery Branch, will host the third annual Life is good® Pumpkin Festival providing a fun-filled day of good old-fashioned entertainment with all event proceeds going to benefit kids in need.

The festival runs from 1 p.m.to 6 p.m. with pumpkin carving, face painting, silent auction, great food, musical entertainment and lots of games for kids and adults.

Golf Seminar Offered for JC Enthusiasts

Alpharetta resident and PGA Master Golf Professional, Bill Barkey, will be giving a dynamic golf seminar on "The Ultimate Golf Swing"

The seminar is open to Johns Creek, North Fulton and Forsyth area residents and will be held Thursday, Sept. 25 and Monday, Sept. 29 at the Doubletree Hotel/Roswell. The cost is $10.

Several 90-minute seminars will be held throughout the day at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Chattachoochee Nature Center Announces New Fall Adult Programming

The start of school means autumn is just around the corner and fall is the perfect time to get outdoors, and appreciate the beauty of nature.

The Chattahoochee Nature Center has more than two miles of woodland and river boardwalk trails, each with its own unique sights and sounds. There are resting spots on the trails that allow hikers to take a breath and enjoy the seclusion.

Alpharetta to Host Old Milton Country Fair

The Alpharetta Lions Club, Alpharetta Historical Society and the City of Alpharetta will offer up some foot-stompin’, good old-fashioned family fun at the Old Milton Country Fair, 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sat. and Sun., Sept. 13 - 14.

Southern barbecue, live bluegrass, country music and demonstrations will highlight the fair, which will take place at the Historic Log Cabin on the old Milton High School grounds (Milton Center) at 86 School Drive in Historic Downtown Alpharetta. Admission and parking are free to the public.

Kiedrich Kromp wanted to do something that would help raise awareness for animals and nature. The young philanthropist decided to create an informal club at his school and his friend, Cody Lamanac, quickly jumped on board.

The two boys began generating ideas on what they could do and decided on “The Animal and Nature Society Club” to help take care of wildlife.

The pair invited friends from their school to join and began raising money by holding a yard sale for an organization that worked with animals.

The City of Alpharetta Recreation and Parks Department has opened enrollment in its new Pilates Fitness Program.

Classes will be held twice each week at Wills Park. Information on class schedules, fees and registration can be obtained by calling 678-297-6133 or sending an email to wprcprograms@alpharetta.ga.us.

Pilates is a mind-body form of exercise that helps develop strength, flexibility and stability in the core musculature of the body by emphasizing controlled breathing during movement and focusing on how the body is positioned.

While hurricane season has just begun, already the Texas Gulf Coast has been slammed with storms. While many have taken the time to prepare themselves and their homes for a hurricane, some have not thought about how to prepare their pets for emergency situations.

As a Florida resident, Kathy Santo has weathered many hurricanes. Santo, a dog trainer for more than 20 years, advises pet owners that a hurricane can be an unbelievably traumatic event for our four-legged family members.
