On Thursday, May 1 the Kiwanis Club of Duluth will host its 19th Annual Charity Golf Tournament at St. Marlo Country Club in Duluth. The tournament is the Club's largest fund raising event of the year. All proceeds are used to provide financial grants to local children's charities.

Barbara Moore, Husqvarna Viking Educator, is coming back to Discover Sewing with a new event.
Moore makes techniques in heirloom, quilting and embroidery look so easy.
Her tips and techniques appeal to all sewers, regardless of skill level, type of sewing, or brand of machine. Her class will be held May 1 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at Discover Sewing located at 220 Sandy Springs Circle in Atlanta.

The City of Alpharetta invites the public to attend a Spring Arts Show on Friday, May 2. The event will be held from 7 p.m. - 10 p.m. at the Alpharetta Arts Center at Crabapple located at 12624 Broadwell Road. Admission to the event is free.
The Spring Arts Show features original artwork created by instructors and students from classes held at the Alpharetta Arts Center. Pieces on display include paintings, drawings, pottery, knitting, glass beads, and children’s artwork. Some works will be available for purchase.

Loe will present her vision for the school system and to address several curriculum topics, including the school system’s Continuous Achievement model and a balanced approach to teaching mathematics.

Thousands of local residents will unite on Mother’s Day weekend to participate in the 2008 Komen Atlanta Race for the Cure on Saturday, May 10, at Atlantic Station. The Greater Atlanta Affiliate anticipates the event will raise a record $1.5 million with more than 15,000 participants.
Participants will begin the Race in front of the Wachovia building. The 5K route crosses the 17th Street Bridge, winds through midtown and back to the mini-city of Atlantic Station.

The 2008 Kaiser Permanente Corporate Run/Walk & Fitness Program debuts this year with the very first Captain's Kickoff on Tuesday, May 13 at the Park Tavern from 6-8 p.m.
This is the first of three Kickoff events, which are designed to inform Atlanta businesses about how they can participate in this popular Atlanta fitness event. This year they are expecting more than 15,000 runners, walkers and joggers pounding the pavement through downtown Atlanta on September 25.

Northside Hospital Hosts Community Blood Drives
Throughout the year, Northside Hospital hosts community blood drives at each of its hospitals in Atlanta, Forsyth and Cherokee. According to the American Red Cross, about four million people need blood each year in the United States, which equates to one person every two seconds. The need for blood is ongoing because unused blood has an expiration of 42 days.
