Emory Johns Creek Hospital will hold babysitting classes this summer, beginning Saturday, June 21. Instructors from EJCH will train young teens to care for younger children.

“We are proud to be able to offer this nationally recognized program to the adolescents in our community,” said Johnel Reid, director of marketing for Emory Johns Creek Hospital.

The classes are designed for children ages 11 to 13 and teach them how to handle emergencies when caring for children.

Northside Hospital Hosts Community Blood Drives

Throughout the year, Northside Hospital hosts community blood drives at each of its hospitals in Atlanta, Forsyth and Cherokee. According to the American Red Cross, about four million people need blood each year in the United States, which equates to one person every two seconds. The need for blood is ongoing because unused blood has an expiration of 42 days.

In an eco-friendly attempt at cleanliness and house-keeping, Northview High school is going to have it's annual "Hands on Northview" project. On July 19, from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. students from grades 10-12 are going back to school with shovels, instead of books. This clean up process includes re-planting, cleaning the roads, scrubbing the building, and other outdoor tasks, in an effort to make the school presentable for it's first day. JROTC long with other clubs enrolled in Nortthview are going to be leading the effort.

The Atlanta Workshop Players (AWP) are scouting the metro area for top talent this summer. AWP is a professional children’s theater company currently looking to fill three major upcoming artistic events.

The Tour Show is casting for three educational and social-issue musicals which will tour metro Atlanta during the 2008-2009 school year. AWP needs singers, dancers and actors ages seven to adult.

Come join the fundraiser from March until September. Duluth is raising money for the Duluth Historical Society Strickland House by showing off painted and decorated dog statues all over town. There will be a parade and unveiling of a special piece in the spring.

The Outback Steaks Johns Creek location will have a grand opening on July 28. The establishment is located at 10955 Jones Bridge Road, in the Stein Mart Shopping Center.

A ribbon cutting will take place at 2 p.m., Outback will officially open for business at 4 p.m. Half of all the revenue from Monday will go to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Northside Hospital's August Business After Hours is an annual joint event with the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce. This year's event will be extra special as it will be held at the new Northside Hospital-Forsyth Women's Center. This event will be the very first publicly accessible opportunity to tour the Women's Center.

Co-hosted by Northside Hospital-Forsyth and Dekalb Office Environments, the August event will be held, July 31, from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. . No reservations necessary, please pay at the door. $5/members; $15/non-members.
