Georgia Roads' Efficiency Declines

According to a study released Thursday by the Reason Foundation, Georgia’s highway system has started to decline.

Georgia roads ranked No. 10 in the nation in the Reason Foundation’s 17th Annual Report on the Performance of State Highway Systems.

Georgia ranked sixth in the nation in last year’s study.

The foundation's report measures the performance of all state-owned roads and highways from 1984 to 2006.

Forbes Magazine has tapped Georgia as the third best state in the nation for alternative energy from biomass. Also this week, cable news and business channel CNBC ranked Georgia in the top ten and second in the Southeast in its annual rankings of “America’s Top States for Business.”

Voter ID Remains For Now

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Tom Campbell has ruled to uphold the state’s enforcement of the much-debated photo voter ID law.

Campbell's motion maintains the current mandate that voters must present a photo ID when voting in the Tuesday, July 15 Primary elections.

Brandon Beach Elected to GDOT Board

Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce President and CEO, Brandon L. Beach, has been elected to the Georgia Department of Transportation’s State Transportation Board.

“It is a great pleasure to commend and congratulate Brandon Beach on his election to the State Transportation Board,” said Rep. Tom Price (GA-6).

He was elected by the State Senators and Representatives from Georgia’s Sixth Congressional District to represent the community.

Perdue Announces Transportation Plan

Gov. Sonny Perdue has announced a new statewide transportation plan he is calling “Investing in Tomorrow’s Transportation Today,” or IT3.

Perdue announced the plan during a press conference last Thursday. His plan is designed to develop a cooperative body among the Department of Transportation, Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA), the General Assembly. Also, local partners and the executive branch will work to develop strategies to will improve transportation infrastructure throughout Georgia.

Sen. Hill Continues to Lead Healthcare Committee

State Sen. Judson Hill (R-Marietta) has been re-appointed to serve another term as Chairman of the Georgia Senate Study Committee on Healthcare Transformation. Hill, who was elected to the Georgia Senate in 2004, was appointed Chair by Lt. Gov.Casey Cagle.

The Healthcare Transformation Study Committee is responsible for creating policy that helps make healthcare and health insurance more accessible and affordable for to all of Georgia’s citizens.

Gov. To Speak on Transportaion Tomorrow
