Alpharetta, Dunwoody Welcome New Principals

School is out for the summer, but when students at two local schools return in August they will be greeted with new faces.

The Fulton County School System has the appointed of two new principals to two North Fulton Schools. Ivy Gainey is the new principal of Dunwoody Springs Charter Elementary School, and Mary Anne Charron will now serve as principal of Alpharetta High School.

Gainey has worked for the Fulton County School System for the past 13 years – most recently as assistant principal of Mountain Park Elementary School in Roswell. There she was responsible for hiring and monitoring staff, managing school facilities as well as instructional planning. She was also an assistant principal and teacher at Esther Jackson Elementary School in Roswell.

Gainey obtained a master’s degree in educational leadership from the State University of West Georgia and a bachelor’s degree in mass communication from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C. She also holds numerous educational certifications. She is a member of various professional organizations, including the Professional Association for Georgia Educators, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and Fulton County Assistant Principals’ Association.

Charron comes to the Fulton school system from Georgia’s Leadership Institute for School Improvement (GLISI), where she spent two years helping educational leaders improve student achievement and graduation rates. She also has served for 16 years as a principal for various schools in Gwinnett County Public Schools, where she started her career as a teacher.

Charron has a bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University, a master’s degree in middle grades education, a curriculum and instruction endorsement from the University of Georgia and a specialist’s degree in educational leadership from UGA, as well. She is a member of the National Association of Secondary School Principals, Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development and the National Staff Development Council.
