Sen. Hill Continues to Lead Healthcare Committee

State Sen. Judson Hill (R-Marietta) has been re-appointed to serve another term as Chairman of the Georgia Senate Study Committee on Healthcare Transformation. Hill, who was elected to the Georgia Senate in 2004, was appointed Chair by Lt. Gov.Casey Cagle.

The Healthcare Transformation Study Committee is responsible for creating policy that helps make healthcare and health insurance more accessible and affordable for to all of Georgia’s citizens.

“Senator Hill will lead the healthcare study committee with strength as chairmen,” said Cagle. “He is dedicated to his constituents and has worked diligently in the state senate. I look forward to seeing the results the Healthcare Transformation Study Committee produces for our state.”

During the 2008 legislative session, Hill authored and secured the passage two comprehensive transforming pieces of legislation to address the needs of Georgia’s uninsured patients. Gov. Sonny Perdue signed senate Bill 383 and House Bill 977 on May 7, 2008. These laws will help more Georgians afford health insurance and improve the overall health of Georgians through their focus on preventative health measures. HB 977 includes numerous tax benefits for working families for the first time eliminate the tax inequities, which have made health insurance costly for the self employed.

“Senator Hill has shown that he’s very knowledgeable when it comes to healthcare reform,” said President Pro Tem Eric Johnson (R-Savannah). “He has a solid track record in the Senate and I am confident that he will be an asset to this important study committee.”

Hill also serves as chairman of the Reapportionment and Redistricting Committee and is also a member of the important Health and Human Services and Judiciary committees.
