Shortly after coming on board as Fulton County’s Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Cindy Loe created the Stake Holder survey as a way to receive community input.

The results of the survey have now been released with more than 2,800 school system parents, teachers and staff responding to the survey.

Questions on the survey asked participants what they thought school system performed best, concerns they might have, and what one change they would like to see made. Of the respondents, more than 240, or, 8.5 percent said they didn’t have any concerns. Specific answers included:

What changes?

· Curriculum development, particularly math

· Ensure continued, strong leadership

· More input to decisions and better system wide communication

· Stricter adherence to student discipline, with greater follow-through

· Human resources practices and added professional development opportunities

What does the school system do best?

· The school system epitomizes its logo/tagline: “Where Students Come First”

· The quality of education provided and its teachers

· Open communication and attention to high academic standards

· Educational resources and professional development for teachers

· Talented and Gifted (TAG) program and curriculum

· Parental involvement, safety and quality of school administrators

What concerns are there about the school system?

· Math curriculum (which has already been resolved with the school board’s adoption of a more balanced approach to teaching mathematics)

· School overcrowding and redistricting

· Too many mandated student tests and the need for stronger student discipline

The results have been presented to the school board and discussed with principals and administrators. The findings will be used to shape the future of Fulton County schools, especially in the area of student achievement.
