Dancing With Alpharetta's 'Rhythm n’ Shoes'

Entering into their 8th year with the City of Alpharetta Recreation & Parks Department, the Rhythm n’ Shoes Dance Program, run by Peri Sanders and held at the Alpharetta Community Center, offers children a variety of dance forms to suit any taste and ability.

Recital and non-recital classes run the duration of the school-year, beginning in August and concluding with an annual recital. Non-recital class sessions run 10 - 13 weeks.

Fall 2008 classes begin the week of Aug. 25 and they run through November and December with winter session beginning in January and running through March.

Tiny Toes is a parent participation dance class for children 18-months - 2 1/2 years. With help from an adult, dancers will explore basic movement and music activities using fun songs & props. Classes for the fall are being held on Tuesdays from 9:30 a.m. - 10 a.m. and for the winter on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m - 10 a.m.

Twinkle Two’s is for our 2-year-old dancers, similar to our Tiny Toes program but parents do not participate in this class. Fall classes are held on Wednesdays 10 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Winter classes will run on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 10 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.

Me & My Teddy Bear is an opportunity for your 3 to 4 year old dancer to bring their favorite bear to class each week and dance with them. Bear themed music will be incorporated as they learn basic ballet positions & movement. Classes will take place Wednesdays, 11:30 a.m.- 12:15 p.m. and winter classes will meet on Mondays from 11:15 p.m. - 12 p.m. and Wednesdays, 11:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.

Pretty Princess Ballet is the perfect class for 3 to 5-year olds. Dancers will come dressed as their favorite princess each week and learn basic ballet positions and movement. Fall classes will be held on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. and winter session classes will meet on Mondays and Tuesdays from 10:30 a.m. - 11:15 a.m. or 3:15 p.m. - 4 p.m., as well as Wednesdays from 2:15 p.m. - 3 p.m.

Rising Stars is a class for 3-4-year-olds. The one-hour class combines music and movement, basic ballet, and tap. Classes are available Wednesday mornings from 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and Thursdays, 3 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Ballet/Tap and Ballet/Jazz for 4-6 year olds are also one-hour classes combining two very classic forms of dance. Ballet/Tap classes available Tuesday, 5 p.m. - 6 p.m. and Ballet/Jazz classes available Wednesdays, 3 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Hip-Hop, a popular form of dance seen in many of music videos and concerts, uses quick, jolting, sharp moves, unlike other styles. This class is a great way for kids to gain the confidence to participate in social activities. Your 6 to 8-year-old is sure to enjoy this class offered Thursdays, 4 p.m. - 5 p.m.

For the 2nd year in a row we are offering our very popular Ballet and Tap classes for children ages 7 and older. Classes are 45 minutes long and run back-to-back if your dancer thinks they would like to take both forms of dance. Ballet is held on Mondays from 6 p.m. - 6:45 p.m. and Tap from 6:45 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
