Titans Outrun Greyhounds

The Northview Titans outran the Greyhounds Friday night at Titan Stadium, beating Pope 17-14 and running their record to 2-1.

As usual, Northview head coach Don Savage was looking for improvement after the win.

"We're not progressing as I would like," he said. "We are still making too many errors. We were fortunate. We made too many mistakes to win, but held on at the end."

The first two times the Titans got the ball they drove for touchdowns. They went 44 yards in only four plays, capped by a touchdown pass from quarterback Justin Tuggle to tight end Ross Pepe. It took a little longer the next time they got the ball. Starting on their own 40-yard line, Northview took seven plays to cover the 60 yards, with Tuggle plunging in from the one-yard line for the score.

The Titans' defense turned in a key defensive stand in the second quarter, stopping Pope on fourth and goal. Northview took over deep in its own territory and drove the length of the field, but came up empty.

"It seemed to be the theme of the evening," said Savage.

The Titans' second win of the season may have come at a price. Junior Tailback Samoir Patrick, who rushed for 161 yards in the game, injured a hamstring and may not be able to go Friday when Norcross travels to Kell High School in Marietta to play the Longhorns.

Kell is coming off a 42-7 trouncing by Roswell and will be looking for the upset when the Titans come to visit. When asked what he was expecting from the Longhorns, Savage got right to the point.

"The Longhorns don't concern me. We just need to fix the Titans and we'll be okay."
