Chattahoochee keeps rolling with win over Sprayberry

The Chattahoochee Cougars improved their record to 4-1 with a 28-14 win over the Sprayberry Yellow Jackets Friday night at Cougar Field.

An enthusiastic homecoming crowd watched Chattahoochee jump out to a 21-0 halftime lead and never look back.

“I had two players on the homecoming court,” said Cougar head coach Terry Crowder. “Seniors Gary Grace and Justin Smith. I told them if we were winning at half time they could go out and take part in the homecoming ceremonies. Both players told me they wanted to stay in the locker room because they felt they needed to correct some mistakes they made in the first half. Keep in mind, we were winning by three touchdowns at the time!”

“I thought Grace went out in the second half and had the best game of the season. He had 64 yards rushing with no turnovers and scored two touchdowns,” said Crowder. “We also moved Justin Smith to nose guard from his normal defensive end position. He did a great job disrupting Sprayberry’s offense.”

Grace’s touchdowns came on a 2-yard smash in the second quarter, and another on one of his trademark 35-yard bursts in the fourth quarter.

Cougar junior quarterback Brendan Cross accounted for the other two Chattahoochee scores. The signal caller scampered in from five yards out early in the game, and then hit junior G. Alalade (he actually goes by the initial G. as a first name) on a pretty 30-yard touchdown pass in the 4th quarter.

The Cougars racked up 321 yards of total offense for the night, with 170 of them coming on the arm of Cross. He was 11 for 16 passing with one interception.

Chattahoochee joins neighborhood rival Northview with an open date this Friday night.

Terry Crowder says he and his staff will still be at a football game, though. Crowder says they’ll be scouting possible division 7 AAAAA playoff rivals on Friday night.
