House Speaker Pro Tem Mark Burkhalter commemorated Georgia’s Arbor Day on Feb. 15 by choosing Johns Creek Beautification, Inc., a local non-profit organization in his legislative district, as this year’s recipient of 10 red oak tree seedlings as provided by the Georgia Forestry Commission.

“As a newly formed city and organization, we are honored to have been chosen for this donation. We thank Representative Burkhalter for his dedication and mutual commitment to replenishing the urban forest and building awareness of the many benefits trees bring to our community,” said Linda Johnson. “We, in turn, recognize the outstanding efforts of Mr. Harry Goode and the Cameron Forest subdivision for their entrance beautification project by planting a red oak seedling among their landscaping beds on State Bridge Road. The nine remaining seedlings will be planted along the fence line of Northview High School, in association with a landscaping bed enhancement at the Parsons Road entry. This is yet another example of the effectiveness of private/public partnership.”

This year marked Georgia’s 117th Arbor Day the theme of this years event was ‘Connect and Collaborate: Working Together for a Healthy Urban Forest’ with our state’s leadership.
