After nearly two months of discussion, the Johns Creek City Council has chosen a new logo. During the council's April 14 meeting the council chose a logo similar to one chosen after the city's inception.

In February Alpharetta graphics design firm, Inward Solutions, presented the council with 12 logo options, which after much discussion were narrowed down to four.

However, the council decided to revamp the existing logo.

"I think that in a lot of respect with the current logo we had already branded the city," said Councilwoman Liz Hausmann. "This is a good compromise."

Communications Director Bill Doughty said the council decided to work with the existing logo because of the identity already invested in it.

"The designs given as alternatives were very strong, [the council] felt they were not distinctive over what other city's have as their identity," said Doughty.

During the logo re-design and process the council grappled with how to define a young city.

"As a new city there is not a distinct identification there is a historical or architectural landmark for the city, and these are types of things you can hone in on," Doughty said.

The city did conduct a public survey and interviews, during the process, and reported that citizens preferred using images of greenery and water. Doughty says that Inward Solutions interpreted these requests well, but that the prior logo had "brand value."

The new logo has the same "swoosh" which represent the physical creek, the font is "forward moving," flowing with the creek.

"In the end it was a good compromise -- the forward motion, conveys an energy," Doughty said.
