What to Do in and out of Johns Creek

Northview High School football is right around the corner and this year we have created a new venue for local area businesses to interact with the students and families of Northview. It is called the Titan Fan Zone. This is an interactive midway of games, sampling, face painting, inflatable's and companies showcasing their products and services. It is designed to get our fan base to the games earlier to help alleviate traffic and congestion at the gate while creating a fun pre-game atmosphere for the kids.

Northview Hosts Titans Day 2008

The Northview High School Titans will host the annual Titan Day Aug. 16. Titan Day 2008 is an opportunity for Northview fans, family and the community to watch intrasquad football scrimmages. There will also be games and family entertainment.

The festivities will begin at 11 a.m. with a sixth, seventh and eighth-grade Junior Titan teams scrimmage.

At 7 p.m. the varsity Titan football team will take the field, under the guidance of new head coach James Showfety, for an intrasquad scrimmage.

School Officials Meet with JC Citizens

Each month members of the Fulton County Board of Education host informative meetings within their districts to allow parents and citizens to ask questions and express concerns. On Wednesday Ashley Widener, district five representative, and Fulton County Superintendent, Dr. Cindy Loe met with parents in Johns Creek to discuss upcoming curriculum changes, as well as school budget items.

Mayoral Smackdown: JC and Milton square off

Johns Creek Mayor Mike Bodker and Milton Mayor Joe Lockwood have caught the Friday Night Lights fever.

The mayors placed a friendly bet about upcoming high school football games, each believing their respective home teams will be victorious. The bet demands the mayor of the losing team must wear the opposing team’s football jersey for the duration of a city council meeting.

Northview Principal Peter Zervakos, who turned out for the mayoral challenge, said to Lockwood, “I appreciate your willingness to wear our jersey,” Game on.

Northview falls to 7th ranked Walton

The Northview Titans went helmet to helmet against the Walton Raiders Friday night at Titan Stadium. The Titans played hard for one quarter. Unfortunately for Northview, the rules say you have to play four of them.

When the game clock showed triple zeros at 10:05 p.m., it also showed numbers that told the story of the game. Walton 35, Northview 14. Some would say it wasn't that close, including Titan head coach Don Savage.

Lady Titans Start Strong

The 2007 Lady Titans Softball team is made up of 15 talented fast-pitch players that are fired up to play hard and win. With six seniors graduating last spring, the Lady Titans return a younger, yet highly-experienced team.

Amanda Smith returns as the team's only senior. Chelsea Godwin represents the junior class. The balance of the team includes ten sophomores (five who are returning players) and three freshmen. The complete Varsity roster is posted on the Northview High School website.

Titans Outrun Greyhounds

The Northview Titans outran the Greyhounds Friday night at Titan Stadium, beating Pope 17-14 and running their record to 2-1.

As usual, Northview head coach Don Savage was looking for improvement after the win.

"We're not progressing as I would like," he said. "We are still making too many errors. We were fortunate. We made too many mistakes to win, but held on at the end."

Northview Stumbles Versus Norcross

After an impressive 21-7 opening season win over Mill Creek, the Northview Titans were brought back to reality by the Norcross Blue Devils Friday night at Titan Stadium. Norcross overcame an early 7-3 Northview lead to win going away, 31-7.

Listening to Northview head coach Don Savage after the Mill Creek win the previous week, you knew he was aware that one game doesn't make a season.
